Spanning the Gap Between Religion and Academia

The Hebrew Bible Reading Group is a highly diverse group, but all of its members are interested in reading, translating, and exploring the nuances of the Biblical Hebrew text. Some of us have barely a years-worth of practice at Biblical Hebrew, others much more. We come from different religious, academic, and professional backgrounds and the varied experiences we bring make for some lively and productive discussion.
We meet once a week for two hours at a mutually agreed upon day and time. Because so many of us have ties to the University of Iowa, we run roughly in accordance with the University calendar. Our meeting times change as schedules change each semester.

We currently meet on Thursday mornings, 9:00-11:00, at Agudas Achim Congregation, on the corner of Washington and Johnson streets, one block East of New Pi Co-op in Iowa City. Registration is underway for the fall.
If you have any experience with reading the Bible in Hebrew, we would love to have you join us.
We will begin the Book of Esther on September 30th. Please contact me for more information.
